Hub Over Locknut Dimension

Hub Over Locknut Dimension

The Over Locknut Dimension (OLD) refers to the usable width of a hub. By using various endcap adapters it is possible to change the OLD of a hub so that it can fit into a different frame or fork. This is a critical dimension to account for when searching for a hub because if it's not the same size as the frame or fork requires then they will need to be bent/flexed in order to fit which raises serious safety concerns.
In the term name, the first number refers to the width while the second number refers to the diameter of the dropout that the hub is to fit into. Both these numbers need to match the requirements of the frame or fork in question.

For Example:
100mm width is common for a front hub but there are several axle/dropout diameters to account for as well. A 15mm axle won't thread into a fork with 20mm dropouts since there is a 5mm difference and the threads won't even contact each other.
