Chainring Offset

Chainring Offset

Chainring offset refers to the difference between where the chainring mounts to the crankset and where the chain interfaces with the teeth. As described in the image, the chainring teeth sit behind where the chainring mounts to the crankset which will act to reduce the chainline and bring the chain closer to the center of the bike. This can act to improve the chainline and enable the chain to run smoother in larger (lower) cogset gears.
